GUMALIFE publishes this guide as the store organization. Product and workflow statements are checked against the current storefront, customizer, and public policies. Read our editorial method.
1. Find the original file
Start with the highest-quality version you already have. A camera original normally preserves more detail than a screenshot, a messaging-app copy, or an image downloaded from a social post. This matters most for pet fur, hair, glasses, faces, and any small text you expect to remain recognizable.
The customizer accepts common image uploads including JPG, PNG, WebP, or HEIC; files over 20 MB are rejected before processing. File type alone does not guarantee a good result; subject clarity, crop, lighting, and the quality of the source file matter together.
2. Check light, focus, and framing
Choose a photo in which the intended subject is in focus and separated from the background. Strong side light, deep shadows over the face, or a distant subject can make the final design harder to read. Keep the whole face, pet ears, hair, and other meaningful details inside the frame.
| What you see | Why it is risky | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| A screenshot with menus or chat bubbles | Interface text competes with the subject | Locate the original photo or crop out the interface |
| The subject is very small | The design needs heavy enlargement | Use a closer original or choose a tighter crop |
| Important details touch the edge | Curved print areas and cropping leave little margin | Choose a wider frame or move the crop inward |
| Dark face against a dark background | The subject may blend into the design | Choose a brighter image or a frame with clearer contrast |
3. Treat text as a separate design element
If a screenshot is essential to the joke, remove unrelated interface clutter and make the meaningful line large enough to read in the full mug preview. Whenever possible, upload the clean photo and add the caption separately in the customizer so the words can be sized and positioned intentionally.
4. Use the preview as a production check
Review the complete mug at normal size. Confirm the photo, crop, spelling, selected template, and mug option. The preview is a close production guide, but screen brightness, ceramic shape, printing, cropping, and color conversion can create small differences.
- • Original image selected, not an accidental thumbnail or screenshot.
- • Subject is sharp enough to recognize without zooming.
- • Faces, ears, names, and dates are not against crop edges.
- • Any text is readable in the full preview.
- • The chosen product and variant match the order summary.
First-party evidence record
Upload and crop-rule audit
The checklist uses the actual file acceptance and crop-quality rules in the current GUMALIFE customizer rather than a generic, unsupported megapixel recommendation.
Evidence checked
Method
On July 18, 2026, GUMALIFE inspected the storefront upload validation and both crop profiles. The audit recorded accepted formats, source-pixel minimums, recommended crop sizes, aspect ratios, and the checks shown to shoppers while zooming and confirming a crop.
Recorded findings
- • The current uploader accepts common image uploads including JPG, PNG, WebP, or HEIC and rejects files over 20 MB.
- • A single-photo 4:5 crop must retain at least 300 × 375 source pixels; 600 × 750 is the in-tool recommendation.
- • Each photo in a two-photo 9:16 layout must retain at least 225 × 400 source pixels; 450 × 800 is the in-tool recommendation.
- • The quality message is calculated from pixels remaining inside the selected crop, so aggressive zoom can make an otherwise large source file unsuitable.
What this evidence does not prove
These thresholds determine whether the current digital workflow can reliably process and crop an image. They are not a published physical print-resolution study and do not guarantee exact color, sharpness, or appearance on ceramic.
